On two ends we stand
Dancing to music we conjured.
Eyes locked,
hand apart from hand:
our ballad of ardor.
Swimming through
a sea of smoke
I came across
your graceful stance.
Intoxicated as you spoke
my heart leapt into dance.
In awe of your beauty
I was stripped away,
Undone!
My mouth opened to speak,
but my voice
trailed off to oblivion.
Your radiance
wrapped around me.
Silks billowing in the breeze.
Tying me into movement,
wishing not to be set free.
On limbs
we played chords,
producing
the melody of our hearts.
Restrained in measure: our hymn,
Lest the world tear us apart.
Just as you came
you went,
disappearing into night’s dark.
Bereft of calm,
sanity spent
I tossed and turned,
Yearning for that spark.
Waking in the night
Gingerly treading
through the dark.
Groping... searching...
my way
to your evasive heart.
With hard resolve
I writhe in angst.
The image of you
prolonging this heart’s
lyrical dance.
Above the rooftops I now stand
in search of
that warm smile.
Gazing northwards and east
towards distant lands...
horizon hazy for miles.
As the sun sets
the medina
takes on a romantic hue.
My heart though bereft
of that
which would help subdue.
Don’t leave.
Stay.
So Together we may lay
gazing up
at the speckled past,
in silenzio assordante.
