Settling into the circle
of secret keepers
you see life and love
from the eyes of others.
With a murmuring prayer
a hallelujah, and a dare
the words come fluttering out
like a butterfly in spring:
of pain and sorrow
of the joys of tomorrow
of things that have been
and can be.
You give them your life
and they in return: theirs.
Forming a communion of trust
not all can bear.
But after all
we learn from others,
each day.
And yet we tend to believe
that all we do,
and all we achieve
is all our own doing:
a lone heave.
Guidance, support and love
from the ones who care
is all that we need,
so that we may too share
the fruits of our deeds
The circle may whither
it may crumble and fall,
but you will find others
whom you can trust
after all.
So continue on walking
with your radiant smile,
and your head held high.
Touching the hearts of others
who walk with you,
for even just a while.
